Espresso Buono Closing after 15 years

Dear Wonderful Espresso Buono Customers,

With a heavy heart I must Close Espresso Buono on November 2nd, 2018 Jessica must leave us November 1st and Morgaine by end of year.  These two wonder women are a great team and will be sorely missed!

As for me, time yesterday with my mom, scheduling several health care appointments for her and myself and seeing her tired and in pain was a wake-up call regarding my ability to keep Buono open and be of use to my family.  This is the busiest time of year for my immediate family, with three holidays and three birthdays by end of the year.

I hoped to keep Espresso Buono open with revised hours, reduced expenses and given increased weekday business from our new neighbor, Homage senior services. However, I think it would take several months to see if Espresso Buono might turn a profit. Approaching 70, I have lots of music, gardening, art and travel to experience and can no longer volunteer time to keep our little haven in the heart of Lynnwood open.

So, with Jessica, Morgaine and my family’s help, I chose to close Espresso Buono on November 2nd,  giving time for end of year business tasks and taxes and to organize a going out of business sale event.

We have many food service items to sell, if not miraculously to some entrepreneur wanting to run a (new) shop here, then to folks who come in during said sale. (Dates/times to be posted here on espressobuono.com).

Many Thanks to all who found your way to Espresso Buono over the past 15 years; especially you who stayed with us through thick and thin!  You are the reason I kept Espresso Buono open & why I’m sad to let it go. ☹

I sincerely wish you the best in life – – and that you will not be without a good cuppa when you need it 🙂

I will keep a personal website for those of you who want to stay in touch and will keep you posted here regarding that.

New Neighbors – New Open Hours!

As of July 15 we increased our open days & hours in great part due to increased business from our new wonderful next door neighbor, Homage Senior Services.  These folks provide a multitude of wonderful services throughout Snohomish County.  Now we’ve settled into these hours:

  • Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:30pm
  • Saturday & Sunday 11am-4pm

It’s been tough for Espresso Buono with little evidence of life surrounding us since Wight’s Home and Garden Store on one side and the bookstore on the other side of us closed (independent of each other) on Mother’s Day 2017.   We’ve kept on because we so love those who didn’t assume Espresso Buono also closed and because lovely new folks discovered us in spite of the empty parking lots and buildings around us.  Now with our new neighbors to the east and hopefully new neighbors soon to the west, we’re gearing up for a great 16th year!  Our 15th birthday is in October! More on that later…

Jessica, Morgaine & I have had several special events and activities between us during the summer and have covered each others’ regular work shifts at the shop.  As autumn approaches and school starts we’ll settle in to a more consistent on-duty schedule.  I hope you’ll visit Espresso Buono on different days and hours so we each will have the honor to serve you!

Snow Schedule

Hello to all who have followed our website in order to receive posts/email regarding events such as whether or not we are open due to snow and ice or other such situations that prevent us to get to Espresso Buono to serve you.  Sorry if we missed you yesterday.  Today, 2/23/18, I am here — until or unless it  snow substantially before closing at 5pm.

There is now a link to our real time calendars on espressobuono.com that we update to show known in advance exceptions to our regular open hours and any special events we have scheduled.

Artists’ Coffee House-In house or On line?

Espresso Buono Garden Cafe - Lynnwood, WA USA

Espresso Buono Garden Cafe – Lynnwood, WA USA

When I first created a website I hoped to author the ambiance and artistic attitude of  coffee shops visited during my Rick Steve’s European tour.  I also hoped to capture the character of a writers’ paradise coffee shop I visited in Port Angeles  WA before franchise coffee shops became a thing. I wanted to add the flavor of the shop in the movie Chocolat where arrogance, inhibitions and intolerance gradually melted away to create a new flavor of community.   I wanted this on-line site to take on an adventurous, creative, respectful, inspiring and comforting life of its own with wide and varied accounts and examples of personal  journeys and achievements.

As it turns out, my dreams of an on-line “coffee shop” have been just that – dreams.  However, my real little Espresso Buono shop has met most of the goals above!

Still, as I get older, slowly more savvy in regards to technology and more inclined to just sit down —  I may get a chance to meet up with you here on-line even if you’re half way around the world from my cafe.

OR … if you’re nearby, come see us at Espresso Buono Garden Cafe 🙂

Or … check out my other blog Pens’ Pics to see if I’m accomplishing anything there.
